THE BEGINNING ...
On Saturday the 10th October 2015 the Commissioner of Global VX Mr Craig Buttery and directors of VX International Dr Paul Hildreth and Mr Stirling Harpur visited Bilbao to show us how to play the sport of VX.
We met at Olabeaga where there is a “fronton” this is a special court where handball and pilota is played. Once we had introduced everyone the team from Global VX showed us the basics of VX and in no time we were playing games.
What was interesting was that people stopped and watched what we were doing and asked if they could join in.
The rules were so easy to learn and once we had played some warm up games we split everyone into teams and played the first Basque Country tournament
The three teams were Bizkaitarrak (people from Bizcay), Basurdeak ( Boards) and Arranoak (Eagles).
It was fantastic to see people enjoying themselves so much and with big smiles on ther face but with the games very competitive.
Basurdeak 29-28 Arranoak
Bizkaitarrak 74-63 Basurdeak
Bizkaitarrak 64-32 Arranoak
1-Bizkaitarrak 2 wins and 138 hits
2-Basurdeak one win and 92 hits
3-Arranoak no win and 60 hits
We are now an officially recognised organisation with the International Governing Body and we look forward to developing VX in the Basque Region.
The great news is that we will be meeting every two weeks to play more games and to set up another team to make 4
Next practice in Bilbao
Next date TBC
We meet every two weeks
The 24 of october we met again to play VX. First, we gathered with just 10 players because some of players who came the first day were ill or they had to do other chores. Fortunately 5 new players decide to join us and to play VX. It was fantastic.
Day by day we are more and more which is great news. Two children came and after watching us playing they decided to play. They enjoyed VX very much. Then one father and his kid came and they join us and finally one runner who was running wathed us and came too such is the power of this sport.
That day we trained a little before playing the matches. We trained the dribbling, the launch etc. Then we made three teams (Bizkaitarrak, Basurdeak and Arranoak) and we play a small tournament all against all.
These were the results:
Arranoak 32-27 Basurdeak (a half time, 2 times of 4)
Bizkaitarrak 25-22 Arranoak (a half time, 2 times of 4)
Basurdeak 64-59 Bizkaitarrak (we played 4 times of 4 minutes)
We will gather again this Saturday in Olabeaga. We expect to find new players and to improve ourselves.
